The wait is over my horrid musical fiends...

This is a strange one. If you're not a horror/gore fan, I'd better briefly explain what's going on here. This is the stuff of legend...

There's this film right, ZOMBIE: DAWN OF THE DEAD. It was released in 1978 and was shot by the legendary director George A. Romero. The man is a genius and his work is of unbelievable influence the world over. He has millions of fans. Well this Zombie film is a classic in every sense of the word. Shot on a small budget and mainly in a shopping mall, it's an unforgettable kind of video nasty thing. I mean there are websites dedicated to it, newsgroups, fanzines, you name it. This is big and important. Don't bother with the new remake, just get hold of the original.

A band you may have heard of, Goblin, those Italian proggy boys did the music. Well some of it anyway. And you can buy the Goblin "Dawn Of The Dead" score anywhere, in fact I think it has never been out of print. However, the film is littered with over 60 cues of insane library music. This was music chosen by none other than the other legendary Italian horror director Dario Argento. How weird is that! The music he chose to accompany Romero's Zombies strolling around the Monroeville Shopping Mall, or as accompanyment to endless zombies being shot to pieces was typically dark and insane. I mean he chose one track by "The Pretty Things" for Chrissakes. It's this music, Romero's choice of library cues that makes the film the darkly comic monster it is. There are fans of the movie world wide who have always wondered what this music was, where it came from, and how they could get their hands upon it. Well Trunk has sorted it all out.

This album is a collaboration. A good friend who I refer to as Joel "The Disco Biscuit" is obsessive about this film (he even knows what shoes everyone is wearing in the film). Joel is also obsessive about disco, and jazz, and libary and all sorts of other shit. But a few years ago he worked out that all the lost cues for this, his favourite film, happened to come from his favourite music libary, De Wolfe. I mean he's been bangin' on about this for years to me, and to probably everyone else he bloody well knows. Well last year I found an original De Wolfe 10 inch by this geezer called Herbert Chappell. This is a rare record, believe me. Track one Side One is a tune called "The Gonk", named after the 60s fairground prize made out of wood and hair. Please note: A "Gonk" is not to be confused with a "Troll" as they are very different fantasy creatures from different parts of the world although strangely enough I have now found another killer De Wolfe track called the Troll too but that's another story. Anyway, "The Gonk" is a kind of kooky klockwork big band number, that makes you laugh everytime you hear it. I started playing it out, and the reaction was always amazing - someone would either come up and ask about it or start going mad about "Dawn of the Dead". Then I had horror specialist Colin from moviegrooves.com (a fine website selling groovy film music) on my "Halloween Special" radio show, and he knew the tracks importance instantly. I mean he nearly wet himself, and I dare say if I had left Colin on his own other things would have happened. "The Gonk" is a major missing track from "Dawn", it's the one real fans remember and it was really these kind of reactions that prompted me to put my money where my ears were and issue this little baby.

Joel has been in charge of the track listing. All I did was suggest "the Gonk" went first cos everybody loves it. The the rest of the tracks are in the right order they appear in the film, so if you are a horror fan you may well approve. Out of the sixty plus cues, we have just chosen the most noticeable and longest ones in the film, and the album runs like a horrid little dream. Believe me, it is superb.

Fans of the film in America have spent years trying to track all these originals down. It will take you years possibly, so don't bother.

There are some wonderfully scarey electronics on the album, weird classic horror suspensy things, bonkers big band stuff and a superb kind of country groovy thing by "The Pretty Things", yes that legendary well collected almost mod-like band from the sixties. Do not miss this album.

Already the horror boys are on the case with it, so word will be spreading. You will be able to buy the CD and vinyl from ye olde trunk shoppe before official release. But, as usual, get your skates on if you want one of the 500 vinyls. Oh yeah, almost forgot, the artwork is totally original too.

One final important note. The film is called "Zombie: Dawn Of The Dead", but over the years everyone has got to know it as "Dawn Of The Dead", or simply "Dawn" if you've seen it over 25 times. Therefore we have decided to call the album "Dawn Of The Dead - the Unreleased Soundtrack Music". If we'd called it Zombie: Dawn Of The Dead then everyone would be looking in shops under "D" and it would be filed under "Z". That's interesting isn't it.

Oh, and some news hot in...we may well have a limited number of Stussy Dawn Of The Dead T shirts made because Mr Stussy is a mad boig fan of the film and music and artwork, so I will keep you informed. .

And don't you forget, when there is no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth. Personally I think that's already happening. I mean take a look around why don't ya.
